For those of you who have been following our journey over the last few months may have noticed our newest adventure, adaptive skiiing. When I was still in the hospital we heard about Dream Adaptive and all of the wonderful work they do for those who need a little extra help. We also had the additional bonus that they worked on the mountain where Danielle and I were married. I immediately began researching and communicating with Dream about getting back out there once I was out of the hospital.
My first lesson was less than two weeks after I was finally released from the hospital. I cannot put into words the impact Dream has had on both Danielle and I, but I'll try. Within the first few hours of my lesson and twenty falls later, I was smiling and laughing for the first time since my injury. I finally found a little semblance of normalcy and joy. I never in a million years thought I would ever get back on a mountain and be able to share that experience with my wife. I had the most amazing instructors who were encouraging and knowledgeable. They made the experience ten times better than I could have ever imagined. They challenged me to get me out of my comfort zone and push myself to get better. They cared, and I mean truly cared and wanted to make this the best experience possible. The inspiration they've provided to me is immeasurable. Skiiing again and watching other participants with Dream has been so rewarding. I watch young kids sit ski, or visually impaired persons on the mountain skiiing again and it's amazing.
All of this would be impossible without Dream. They have changed my life for the better and I look forward to each trip and chance to work with them again. My wife and our dear friend, Allison will be participating in the Shred for me. This event is the largest fundraiser for Dream and makes it possible for Dream to continue providing hope and inspiration for others like myself. Please consider donating to this amazing organization.
The Shred-A-Thon is a key fundraiser, on-snow celebration, and vertical challenge (optional) at Whitefish Mountain Resort, in support of DREAM Adaptive Recreation!
